Hi thanks for your time.

I bought a blue hippo from my lfs on saturday. He's about 1-1.25" long. He's currently in qt. I'd say hes doing well - eating everything I've put in the tank. He is a bit shy.

I drip acclimated him for 2.5 hours. He came from a tank running copper. Today he seems covered with a whitish film. I've seen ick before in other tanks - I've never had it. I'm not going to be able to get a photo. I do have some LR in the tank that he hides in. Could this be abbrassions? Or is it ick? It doesn't look like salt grains - more like he was lightly dipped in flour.

Could possibly be marine velvet. Good thing you have it in a QT and not in the main tank. Could turn into something terrible for everything else. Don't know how to treat it but at least you might have something to go on.

Marine velvet - is that a clown only problem?

I don't see any labored breathing, fish is actively swimming at lower levels of tank when out of hiding, very good apetite.

A picture would help...

I know, he's pretty shy. If there's movement around the tank he's in his hole in the rocks. But If I sit on the couch, he comes out and swims through out the tank.

AquaReeferMan - is that a BTA in your avatar? IT looks almost blue. Awesome!

tangs are prone to ich.he might be just stressed from being moved.as long as he is eating and swimming ,he should be ok and should clear on his own.i had the same tlb and got that advice from another poster.best thing i ever did.
