I have tried to get a good frontal pic of this crab, but everyone comes out blurry. I'm reposting the best I have. Any ideas past xanthid?

Again, any help deciding his fate would be appreciated.

Not sure if he's a xanthid, but I'd definitely put him in the sump. You could try offering him some meaty food -- if he pounces on it, you know he's not reef-safe.
Does anyone have a good method for catching these? Thanks.

Bump for more responses. He's about to find himself frozen ala Bertoni's suggestion, if nobody steps up and has reason for a pardon. ;-)

It sure looks like a Xanthid. I have one in my sump that has grown to like 3". He rules.
As far as catching them, I lean a shot glass with food in the bottom up against the rock near where they live. Eventually you should end up with a cup of hermits and a xanthid. Obviouslt the shot glass would only work for smaller ones. I've caught like 4 this way. The only other way was if I got lucky and one happened to be on a rock I picked up.

Thread is now dead, just like the crab. When I checked on him today, he was very slow. Not sure, but I think he starved to death. Nonetheless, the claws were long and skinny, but, in fact, had small serrations.
Thanks for everyone's input!
Peace
Kevin
