The dim. of my tank are 25x18x25. my canopy sits about 11" from the water level. i currently have a 250watt halide 20k running for 6-8 hours. i am limited to space since it is small. i found on hellolights some 18" 30watt VHO. if i put in (2) of those and keep those on for about 10-12 hours and just run the halide for about 3-4 hours. would that work?? any better ideas are welcome!!
Thanks

Why are you cutting back on halide? Heat? Electricity? 4-6 hours min. of halide might be better for a deep tank, but you would be suprised with what softies will live under. You'll be fine.

I am cutting back due to heat. The temp runs from 82-85. it hasnt got over 85 yet. really dont want to buy a chiller for a 50gal. cube. the halide is 11" from the water and i do have fans. cant figure why??

Since I put a fan that blew across the surface of the water, my chiller almost never kicks on anymore.

The fan is a Honeywell 8-9" black fan that I got from Menard's. The bottom of the fan is at about the same height as the top of the tank. The fan is on the right sideand blows across the distance of the tank at a slightly downward angle. If it's hot out, it's on the 2nd speed. If it's nice out, the 1st speed does pretty well. It is a little extra noise, but not as loud as my chiller.

i just have have two 3" computer fans. they only move about 60 cfm. maybe thats my prob!! i will go look for some bigger fans. I just hate to add the noise! it will be worth it in the long run!

I don't mind the fan so much. The chiller is noisier than all hell and it produces sooooo much heat.
