New tank, skimmer overflowing

Is it typical for a skimmer to overflow the collection cup in minutes on a new tank? I just put the sand in & water and got the pump going. It's a 67g tank with a 40g sump. The water is very cloudy from the sand & base rock. I've got a Euro-Reef RS135 in the sump and when I turn it on it bubbles like mad, nice small foamy bubbles. After about a minute the collection cup is full. The pipe is at its lowest point and the air is wide open so there doesn't seem to be anything else to adjust that won't just make it overflow faster. I figure I'll wait for the water to settle overnight and try it again. I just wondered if this is the proper thing to do and if this happens on all new tanks?

Thats normal, also if the skimmer is very new. I'd leave it off everything has settled. Its not going to pull much out on a brand new tank until the rock has somewhat established its self.
