TDS Question

I just got my TDS meter and was playing around with it. I have a PUR filter on my home faucet. My normal tap water readings were about 280, and with the PUR filter the water tested at about 310. Why would the TDS reading be higher with the filter.

It probably releases carbon dust in to the water. All they are good for is taste and odor, thats it.
