figured i would get the most views w/ the SPS guys that use Ca Rx's.
wondering what you guy's Schuran style media (genX, Schuran, other Schuran knock-off's) looks like when it has been in teh rx for quite a while and gets eaten up a lot?
mine did jsut get smaller as it got eaten up but now it seems to be flaking apart almost mushing up like ARM. i never had it do this but i have been running it for quite a while and all the pieces are getting eaten up pretty good.
post pics please. i'll get one tonight
thanks

I've been using Schuran for the past 6 months or so and I have no flaking at all. I really like this media over ARM because it doesn't turn to mush, even when the ph gets real low.

I use the Gan-X and seems to be working very well. I noticed that some pieces that seem more porous than other dissolve first and at the end they tend to flake but still a lot better than the mud I used to get with ARM.
I still use ARM for the second chamber.
I get it from www.premiumaquatics.com

Those of you that had ARM media turn to mush. How long and at what PH did you run your reactor before it turned to mush?

Using Arm at 6.4 to 6.5 PH starts partially mushing in about three weeks to a month. I think mushing will not be an issue if it were not becasue it plugs the proper recirculation. Upflow reactors may be less prone to it than down flow.

Same here..... no flakeing at all....
I just got my reactor up and running last week them my ph probe broke (my fault of course). I have been running the gen-x. What ph is optimal with this media?
