I'm getting a Knop C calcium reactor and wanted to know what I need to look out for and what I should do. I know there are quite a few people on here with CA reactors and was wondering what tips/tricks you could give to a CA Reactor newbie. Thanks.

When you first get your reactor up and running, leave the CO2 off for a few days. All of the media is gonna have bubbles, so just let the effluent run out wide open. It's a bit easier to have the tank water at the parameters you want to keep it at. Don't use the reactor to increase levels but just to maintain them. I mixed up some of Dr. Farley's two part. Once all the bubbles are out of the reactor (24-48 hours), start slowly; 1 bubble every two seconds and a steady dripping effluent rate. Take your tank measurments every day at the same time of day. If your alk and Ca are dropping, increase the CO2 rate just a little bit. Keep in mind that for the first few days of running CO2, the reactor may seem like it's not responding to any increase.
Other than that, just take measurements every day and adjust the reactor every other day to see the results. Once you get it dialed in, you can pretty much leave it alone. I check levels once a week prior to water changes and so far it's all spot on.
