Which is the BEST salt mix brand? Is Oceanic a good brand?

I use Instant Ocean like many on here. Check out www.northcoastmarines.com/salt_comparison.htm I think Steven Pro also did a comparison on different salts as well.

There is no such thing. However, there are many brands that are popular among hobbyists, and then there are some that are avoided at all costs.

Tropic Marine Pro Reef is expensive, and some really like it.
Oceanic - I won't use it again.
Seachem - no opinion
Instant Ocean - I won't use it again.
Kent Sea Salt - I've been using it for 8 years.
Hawaiian Pro - some guys in our club swear by it.
Ocean Pro - no opinion

MARSH is just now completing a 6 month study on salt mixtures, and will be releasing a preliminary report at MACNA this month. Eric Borneman has been overseeing that study.

I use IO and have never had a problem with it. Oceanic salt left a white residue all over my tank.

Interesting comparison Steven

I have been using Tropical Marine Pro since it came out and I do have a lot of cyano and film algae on the glass especially in the refugium. I have been blaming that on the nitrates. I will change to Crystal salt and see what happens.

i was a huge fan of IO for years until a recent tank breakdown and switched over to reef crystals. Now I am a RC fan. More calcium and better growth from my zoos. Nothing else added.

I've only been using it a few months and have the same issue. It's not that big of a deal to clean the glass and throw a snail in the fuge, but it is rather odd.

The MARSH salt study is one of the reasons I am very anxious to go to MACNA.
