My tank is 65 gallons with about 150 lbs. of live rock. I've had my tank up for a year and this past week i have been getting a dark brown algae on some of my live rock. My tank is of course completely cycled and the water quality is good. I don't want all of my pretty live rock turning an ugly brown. Could this be caused by phosphates? I've never tested for it because my tank didn't have any symptoms before. Could this be something else? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

phosphate and silcate. Probably diatoms. They need silica, phosphate, nitrogen(nitrate), iron, zinc, cobalt.

Silicate is comin from either:

tap water

dissolution from rocks, or sand.

Food inputs.
