View Full Version : Whats this in my tank. They look like bugs

Im not sure what this is. But I had my tank running for 5 months now. When I turn the lights off for the nite. In the morning when I wake up and turn the light on. I see these green looking water bugs. They move very quickly and have a bunch of feet. I was wondering what these are and will it hurt anything in my tank. I just started to notice them a few days ago

How big are they? You probably have pods - copepods and/or amphipods. Pods are good and show a healthy aquarium. I'm not sure about the green color though.

No, they are fine, they are copodes, when you see them in your tank that is a good sign that your tank is established, meaning: biologicaly able to maintain natural sea life i.e. Micro organisms. which means that your fish and inverts will have a natural food source, so they wont always be confined to frozen or processed food!

Those are good, though I had the same reaction a long time ago to them. Trust me in time you'll wonder where they went and why you don't have more of them to feed your fish.

My sentiments exactly. Maybe it's just the lighting or something.

Could be amphipods. I know mine have a darker color to them unlike the clear copepods.

if the look like water bugs, they are probably Isopods. i would guess some type of Munnid Isopod from the description. but its impossible to 100% without a pic. heres a Munnid Isopod http://www.melevsreef.com/id/safe_isopod.html
