I recently set up a new 90g Oceanic with the contents of a friend's 60g. There are a couple of things I haven't been able to identify:

This thing looks like it might be a snail egg:

I'm not having any luck identifying this eel:

Thanks in advance.

If you are refering to the green sphere in the 1st photo, it is bubble algae. The black and yellow 'eel' in the 2nd photo is an engineer or convict goby.

Thanks on the bubble algae.

As for the 2nd pic, I should have mentioned he's 8 inches long and I'm almost positive he's an eel. The original owner said it was a SnowFlake eel, but it doesn't look like any of the pictures I've seen.

I think it's a goby, not an eel.

From here (http://www.petsolutions.com/Engineer+Goby-I-124800L-I-C-16202-C-.aspx)

Engineer Goby, Pholidichthys leucotaenia, is another Goby that is a hardy, reef safe, easy-care, community aquarium choice. Also known as the Convict Goby, this fish undergoes a unique coloration tranformation throughout its life. The Engineer Goby at a younger age is mainly a sleek, black fish with a white horizontal stripe down its body. As it ages, its markings change to an almost leopard-like mottling black and white. Groupings of Engineer Gobies exist naturally in the wild, and tend to do better than individual specimens in the home aquarium. A sandy substrate, peaceful tankmates, and plenty of room are all important elements for successfully keeping the Engineer Goby. One of the larger Gobies, it can grow to lengths nearing 12 inches.

I have to agree that its not an eel and that it is a mature engineer goby.

i had 4 engineer gobies in my 55g and i completely HATED them...they tore up my sandbed like nobody's business....one week it would be perfectly flat, the next...all over the place...my lower LR would be covered in substrate....IMO they make the botton of the tank look junky...so after upgrading to my 75g, they went to the LFS...and sold for $10 each...lol

You guys are completely right. I looked at all the different pictures on LiveAquaria and couldn't find anything in the goby section that looked like this.

As for the sand-sifting, he's not the only fish that does this. My maroon clown also moves a large amount of sand around.

I agree on the engineer goby. I would get some Emerald crabs to help take care of the Bubble algae. Why are some people posts posting twice?
