Cars and tequila huh?? What kind of water are you using?? Tap water or other?? How often do you feed?? Please give us more details.

And no, 3 x 400w isn't too much in my book. Get ready for a lot of heat. A 1 hp chiller may be in your near future.

If the lighting is new you will see a algea growth increase from the increase in light.

give you a hint on what to ise in your 180 G,

this is just my opinion based on JOSHY´S
(Person who has done all the studies in PAR Readings ) Articles.

CONCLUSION
Based on this studies it can be conclude that after several tries
the XM 10K & the EVC 10K - 400Watts are the bulbs that bring the best PAR readings of all......driven by PFO M59 Standar Ballast with Lumenarc III Reflector. (this statement is a FACT).

For people using 250 W MH it will be the same ..
the XM 10K & the EVC 10 K along with the PFO M58 & the Lumenarc III Reflectors will bring the best PAR Readings on the 250W Field.

PD: These studies are consider using 10K for Tanks not taller than 25 INCHES.....and using SE (Sinlge Ended Bulbs) otherwise they will be not match for the DE bulbs !!

Yupi1982 I dont think he wants to know what 400watter put out the most par.. He thinks they are to much light for his tank..

I've got 2 250w and a single 400watt on my 180. I dont think the 400 watt is to much light for the tank. The only reason I have one insted of all 3 of them is cause its a softie tank so I dont think its needed. If that tank were maily SPS then I'd probably have 3x400w.

Is this tank new? If so you always get algea outbreaks in the first couple of months. You might want to cut back on your lighting time..
