I'm wondering if my powerhead location is wrong because I'm always getting a lot of red slime algae. I have a 150 Gallon and have two returns plus 3 Max 1200 powerheads located above the rock. Should I have the powerheads beating on the rocks or change something. Right now I have two powerheads in the center of the tank beating on the front of the glass and one on the right side beating on the front of the tank at an angle. Plus my two returns. Thanks for your help!!!

I'd put at least two Tunze's or Seio 1500's in there along with your MJ's. I don't know if you have a sump, and if you do, what kind of return pump you have, but those MJ's aren't going to cut it by themselves in that size tank.

whoops...edit after I reread your post and see that you have returns. So, don't know what kind of return pump you have, but I run a Mag12 return, two Seio 1500's, and two MJ 900's in my 120 and I want more flow. I have over 30x's flow currently.

MJ 1200's? they only produce an output of 290gph or slightly above that. (under 300gph) what size is your return pump? if the general rule of thumb is 10X's tank volume for turnover, it might be you dont have enough circulation. or you might be overdoseing additives or food. i had it (RSA) once, and it was due to both. simple error that can be adjusted. try these adjustments before adding chemicals. IMO, "chemi-pure" or others should be last resort. REEF-ON!

I also started with a softy tank and 3 mj1200s. They really are nowhere near powerful enough, so I replaced with Tunzes. I still may add the MJs as supplements now. If you don't care about noise and want to save some bucks you could use Seios instead of Tunze
