plumbing question

I'm redoing the plumbing on my 55gal softy tank i was trying to figure out which pump would be best i was thinking of going with the mag 9.5 or the mag 12 on a CLS would this be good,bad or not enough any ideas let me know

need more info, what do you have for a return pump??? sounds like you are looking for a pump for a closed loop, those are run with an external pump, Mag's are not the best external pump...

55gal
25gal sump
1 dolphin 650 ( 650 gph at 0 head )
1 rio 600 power head (150 gph)
off brand skimmer
4 95w VHO
60~ lbs live+base rock

i am thinking of going with a CLS the pump i have now only pumps from my fuge to my tank and its going at about 360gph not nearly enough its rated at 650gph at 0 head but i have it going about 6 feet so its droped

the reason i wanted the mag 9 or 12.5 was the price
( under 100$ ) all the other external pumps i see run so high in price put any suggestions on any good pump would help

I have a Mag7 that I use internal/submerged for a couple years now. Hopefully someone will chime in that has used the Mag's externally, they are good pumps for the money! I could be wrong but I recall reading a few threads here and there about them having a tendancy to leak when used external.. Lets see what others say about it..

Mags dont leak the majority of the time but sometimes they do. Does that help???
Id check ebay or the classifieds here for a real external pump like a gen x or its not unheard of to even find a decent iwaki for around a hundred. A used gen x much less of course.......

I have used a mag nine externally for a year on my closed loop with no problems.
