What exactly does a FW dip do?

If i were to do a FW dip on a new tang that i would like to buy would this kill all the possible parasites on him (ich specifically) before putting him in my tank?

I have a FW tank should i dip it in there or use tap water or use tap water with dropps?

Is this safe for the fish and how long do you "dip" it for?

10 Minutes for an infected fish.

But, its very stressfull on them.

You cannot use tap water unless its treated for chlorine.

The dip works by "exploding" the parasite, then they fall off the fish.

You also have to make sure the ph, tempurature is dead on.

Imo its not worth it.

When I had my ich problem I put myfish in my QT tank and slowly lowed the salt level to 1.010. Left them like that for about a week. treated with copper twice then slowly raised salt level back up.
