Removing bioballs can contribute to lowering elevated nitrate, but it is often not the best way, and reducing phosphate is usually a more effective way to deal with algae.

Have you tested you're nitrate and phosphate level's. It seem's red algae predominates when nitrate level's are low and green when it's higher.

If you like it. LOL

Like Randy said, removing phosphate is a better way to go with nuiscance algae. It's just that different algae thrive with different level's of N and P.
