I saw the pH pen/meter at marinedepot:
https://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=CP2131
and was wondering if this meter is good enough to buy. Has anyone has any experience with this pH pen/meter?
This one cost almost half as much as the American Marine Pinpoint pH Monitor.
Which one should I get?

It looks to me like it would do the job Ok. Would you have to dunk it everytime you wanted to Know what your Ph was ?? I use the pinpoint monitor mand I find it very handy to just glance at the numbers any time I like.

So with the pinpont monitor, can you leave it in the refugium or must it be in the main display tank?
Also, if I leave in in then tank or the refugium, would it be affected by the coralline algea or any other thing that may attach to the probe and either damage it or give you an inaccurate measurement?

I have had mine in my overflow for a year and never had any problems with it. Replace the 9 volt battery very 3 months or so. very easy to use and calibrate.

Does that unit (the pinpoint monitor) comes with the pH 7.0 bag for calibration? I just ordered it but have no idea if it comes with it or not.

i have the pinpoint too. the probe is close to my return pump in the sump. i have the ac adapter so no worries on batteries. love mine. if you get it you will be very happy with it. FYI get extra calibration solutions when you buy it.

I have already ordered the meter from marinedepot also but I did not ordered the calibration fluid. It is too late to add on because my ordered has already shipped today and I will get it tomorrow.

if they shipped it its too late. it does have two of each so you get one extra because i used one set the day i got it. the LFS should have them. they are only $1.50 at the LFS near me. but you have enough to get you by for a monthish. i usually check the calibration about once every 30days or so.

Can I put the fluid in a bottle and use it multiple times?

i would not. after its open and mixes with air it will no longer be accurate. the ph will change. i would think its good for a hour or so, but not sure on that. besides you only need to spend about $3-4 bucks every so often. there to cheap to try save anything here, IMO. i just bought 10 of each at the LFS, $30 now i am good for a year, could stretch it for 2 or 3 years if i needed with no worries. if you search in the chemistry forum i am sure this question has been asked.

I dont think you shopuld try to reuse the fluids cause C02 and other things might whack it out and make it give you screwy readings. The stuff is really cheap and a clibration is good for at least a onth.
My pinpoint should be here tomorrow. New in box $80.00 total shipped to my door with 2 each of the calibration fluids. The one from Marine Depot is only $30 cheaper, even less when you have to ship it. Go with the Pinpoint.
