i was wondering about using something other than glass for building a prop tank. is it safe to use Lexan for a prop tank, and if so what is the minimum thickness i should use?
i have no idea how to work glass but with lexan you can drill and tap the holes and after it is screwed together silicone all the seems. just curious if this would work for a begginer prop tank:confused:

alot of people put prop tanks in crazy things, i just had mine in a rubbermaid container (till it cracked) but if you look at the show off your prop tank thread theres tanks made from plexi all the way to baby pools.

I would say anyting watertight and inert is fair game. Rubbermade, tupperware, fiberglass, pond liners, kiddy pools.....

For those of you scared to drill glass.....I did this for the first time a couple months ago. It was a brand new $250 stretch hex. Yea, I was scared.

Anyway, I got a diamond bit big enough for 1 inch bulkheads off of ebay in the $18 range, shipped from Hong Kong. It was probably a peice of junk compared to the $60 bits sold in the US, but hey, it worked for my 2 holes and I bet it could still drill a couple more before getting too dull.

All I did was drill (cheap hand drill) straight and slow while a buddy kept the drilling area clean and cool with a water hose.....just enough water to cary the glass dust away from the hole.
