hello there,
10,000k bulbs, how do the coralife stand up to the aquasun? the aquasun is a pink light, is the coralife a crisp white? what's the cri and par comparison?
I am ordering new bulbs and a ballast. I currently have vho, (1) aquasun, (1) actinic white, (1) aqua-d white), (1) aqua-d blue and
(2) NO 40w aqua-d blue , I am upgrading the 40w to VHO
I was thinking 4-actinic white and 2 super actinc
I would rather have 4-10,000k and 2-super actinic,. however I do not like the pink aquasun.
then i thought 2- aquasun, 2 actinic white, 2 super actinic
what's my best options?
I keep zoanthids , lps, and some sps (montipora), I am leaning more towards the sps and lps and stearing away from the softies.
I understand halides would be best , however I cannot afford to make the transition just yet
thanks for your help
Althugh I'm not Hellolights, I can share what I have found out about VHO. The Aquasuns do give off a pink light that I've found makes the colors of fish stand out more. The Super Actinic is the best actinic I have seen, although I have not seen the new T-5 lights the company is putting out. The Actinic White puts off a nice white glow that the corals seem to like.
If it were me and I was leaning towards lps and sps (I've grown them inder VHO and they do well, but maybe not the best color) I'd go with 4 Actinic White and 2 Super Actnic. I'd give up a bit of color in the fish for the health of the coral.

Hey Dadummy,
Up until last year I used VHO only for a long time. I found the same thing you did with the URI Aquasun looking to pink for me. I used 2x Coralife 10K and 2x URI Super Actinic for a long time. I found this to be a nice blend.
They way to decide is to decide what color you prefer (ie bluer tank/ whiter tank) and base your combination on that. I tend to like a split right down the middle. The combination you mentioned will be more on the bluer side which is fine if you like that combination.
Heres my list...
URI 10K----ok coloration in corals but too pink
Coralife 10K----nice crisp white color
Coralife Actinic---- Blue in color and pretty nice
URI Actinic--- Purple in color and creates very nice fluoresing in the corals.
Hope this helps..plese let us know if you have more questions.

thanks for the replies,
this is what i am going to do,
2- super actinic
2- coralife 10,000k
2 actinic white
I can run the coralife on one ballast
the actinic white on another ballast
and the super actinic on a third
then plug and play and see which combination i like best
so by the next time I need new bulbs , I will know which way i want to go.
hopefully by then I'll be askin g about which halide bulbs I would like to run
thanks again

Hi, do you have pics of your tank? I'm debating on what to get. I have 2 icecaps 660s, I've been running for quite a while 4 40W 6500K and 2 110W superactinics. I get a lot of growth but I would like to see more color on my corals. Thanks

Hey Cristhiam,
You should try sending him a PM. You'll probably get a better response that way.
Thanks,
