Well my tank is doing good.... and bad! lol.. Here is my setup:

10lbs of Fiji Live rock (40 more lbs should be arriving today actually.
60lbs of LS and crushed coral (30 more lbs on the way today)
1 frag of polyps I purchased
1 frag of polyps that are growing naturally
1 skunk cleaner shrimp
1 peppermint shrimp
1 watchman goby
1 damsel
3 turbo snails (50 on the way today)
1 Emerald crab
1 Sally crab
1 feather duster

Here are some pics of the good :)

Now the bad.. I've taken my water to the LFS to get tested just incase I was doing it wrong, and they said my nitrates are a TAD bit high but nothing high enough to kill fish. But I have this WILD algae, diatom, SOMETHING i have no clue what it is infesting my tank like wildfire!!! I can't get rid of it, I scrub my glass and it just comes back, looks like hair, but I'm pretty sure it isn't hair algae.. Help me guys, i know there are some experts on here!

Yeah, that's how my first tank looked after a month or so. But on my upgrade I have all southdown (which helps I think) and alot more flow.

Plus

A refugium packed with sand and algea
an ASM g3 skimmer
Deep sand bed
30x flow turnover
1.2 # of LR per gallon

I think all of the stuff I'm doing on this new tank is helping the cyano and diatoms not to get too bad.

Any other suggestions? I just need to know how to get rid of the rust colored algae or whatever, its highly unnattractive.

Time or reduced light period

My light wattage isnt high at all so i don't think keeping my lights off will help, or will it? i was told to get a phosphate remover, but I dont know. come on now guys I know somebody had the same problem.

first how old is the tank? if i were you i would NOT put the rock that you get today directly into the tank. That can and probably would kill the stuff in there now because rock that is shipped always has some die of on it, and if its uncured to begin w/.....well just put it in seperate rubbermaid containers or something until it shows 0 amonia and nitrite.

But the inverts and fish were probably added too soon before you even had the filtration set up (in other words your live rock)
But thats already done so theres nothn really to talk about on that ;)

But your tank is just a new tank...thats perfectly normal (the algae) for new tanks. Just wait.
But your turbos may help, altho you got way to many turbos imo lol. I wouldnt get more than like 10-15 turbos for a 55 gallon tank.

But mine never really made a dent in my diatom bloom (the rust stuff) but i got a bunch of ceriths and they're the best cleaners imo. They clean evertying including the diatom which was gon in 4 days after they were added...

yes everyone's had the same problem. however that light will actually make the stuff grow more. Any light does from the tanks that i've had.

Phosphates and nitrates are what feed the algae..however your tank is new, so it will just go away on its own more than likely in a couple/few weeks.

??? lol.

but nassarius will be fine. I'd probably see if you can just trade someone 25 of those for 25 cerith snails. Or just sell the 25 or whatever
