That article covers high pH problems.

What is the pH? How are you measuring pH? What is being dosed into the tank in the way of alkalinity supplements or pH buffers, if anything?

A ph monitor is a good idea if you can swing one, way more accurate that liquid tests. If your PH is 8.4 at the end of the light cycle its fine.

A pH of 8.4 is fine. Unless it gets above 8.5, there is no reason to do anything about it. If the alkalinity is 4 meq/L (11 dKH), then the pH of seawater in equilibrium with normal air will be about 8.4 :)
