Ok I need advice... I'm building this sump right here:
http://www.melevsreef.com/acrylics/sumps/j/sump_model_j.html
Dimensions are not exact, but same shape and design..
Now the sump part thats in the front. Its going to be 5" wide, 13" tall, 25" long...
How would I calculate the max flow I can send through that narrow sump?
I don't want the water traveling through it so fast that its throwing water over the bubble traps or something when it should be cascading over.
I could change the bubble traps from 1" apart and raised to, 1.5" apart & raised, if we think that would help.
I was thinking a Mag 7 or 9.5
Minus head loss, the 7 would get me approx. 385GPH, while the 9 would get me approx. 637GPH.
The total volume, of the sump (not counting ref.) is about 20g-23g
And I did try a mag 24 which was 1092 gph... and it was rediculas.. it threw the water about 4" over the bubble traps and sounded like niagra falls. :) I don't know what i was thinking....
