For those using DIY magnesium chloride, when you dissolve it in RO/DI H20 at a rate of 8 cups/gallon, how much precipitate exists afterwards? Would you expect to have a sediment layer of up to 1/4 inch thick?

I could not locate MgCl2 from dead sea works, so am toying an alternative brand. I've tested ammonia which is undetectable by my test kit (red sea). It is made by North American Salt Co. I realize that the best option is the DSW brand, but any comments on using this alternative source of MgCl2?

Thanks.

It may just have some magnesium hydroxide or carbonate (or calcium carbonate) in it that won't dissolve. Those wouldn't be a concern.

How much precipitate do most of you folks see?

I see a fair amount for a bit. Everytime I use it I just shake it up real hard.
