Hi, I'm currently running an MH system over my 90 gal tank which is 48"x18"x 24". the lights are 175w and have 4 actinics. I am thinking of switching over to a t5 system and am wondering ifthis system would work for sps and clams.(Sunlight Supply 48" Tek Light: 8-54W T5 HO Fluorescents) it's the one that Reef Geeks is selling. Also if this will work what is the best combo of bulbs to use?I perfer a little bit on the blue side cause I think it brings out the colours better, but I don't like it too blue like 20000k MH seem to produce.
Thanks Kent

Since the tank is 18" I agree with the above. The 54 watt Teklights are very intense... make sure everything is acclimated properly when you install the lights, they are more intense than the 175 you have now.
For 6 bulbs, and a bluish tinge (a la 14,000K), go with 2 GE suns, 2 UVL Super Actinics and 2 Giesemann Actinic Plus. You could also use a combination of Giesemann Aquablue, UVL Super, and Actinic plus. Those will give you a good amount of PAR while retaining excellent coloration.

Actually my tank is 24" deep. And I want to be able to keep anykind of corals or clams and not have to worry about upgrading later. do you still think that the 6 bulb unit would be enough?
Thanks Kent

I would probably say you can do clams with the tek if you are careful about lamp selection. Use 2 Geisemann Middays or UVL Aquasuns, 1 ATI Aquablue and 3 ATI Blue Plus.

Is the tek t5 system comparable with the ATI t5 system?

i resemble that remark as well.

as far as tek to ati. yeah, comparable, but i suspect the ati is better, since they have been doing t5 longer

You should be able to keep keep everything you want under the lights you have now.

Based on what Grimm said the day before yesterday in this (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=933795) thread I would go with the ATI fixture if I had to purchase another fixture since the ATI has fans built in. Plus I had had a worse time cooling my tank since replacing my MH with T5.

BTW, who sells the ATI T5 fixtures in the states?

I don't know of anybody that sells ATI in the U.S. but there is a guy in Saskatchewan, Canada that sells them. I don't know if he ships to the U.S. but You can get ahold of him on saskreef.ca, he posts under "cableguy" and he runs a shop out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan called Bayside Corals. His name is Colby.he quoted me $826.00 Canadian for an 8 bulb system and his ATI bulbs run fron $25-$28 a piece.Hope this helps!
