Already posted in "New To The Hobby" but I thought this group might have been more appropriate.
35 Gallon currently cycling
Rena XP1 Filter (Foam, Small Amount of Ceramic Rings and Carbon)
Coralife SuperSkimmer 65
15 pounds of Live Rock
30 Watt Florescent Lighting
1 powerhead
Ammonia and Nitrate just past 0 on last reading
I am starting to get the idea that ceramic rings are not a welcome part of filtration in reef tanks. Is it possible that keeping a small amount of ceramic rings will compensate for the additional 15 pounds of Live Rock I require for biological filtration? If I rinse them (in salt water) religiously every 3-4 weeks would that keep my nitrate under control? If I use a fresh carbon insert every 4 weeks would that help as well?
