Hi
I have set up a new 120 gal saltwater aquarium
its been 2 days
the ph is 7.5
ammonia is 0
nitrit is 0

and i dont have live rocks or live sand as we dont get it here in india

so help me friends my ph is not rising will it take more time to reach 8.2 - 8.4
or do i have to add additives

what exactly is in the tank now? Is there saltwater or just fresh tap water (or whatever other freshwater you use)? Freshwater wont have a high pH but usually when you add salt it raises it. And live rock cant be shipped to india?

But anyways, is there any glass lids on the tank? Or any plastic lids? If so, take those off to get good ventilation. And then do you have any surface agitation on the top of the water? That will get good gas exchange going which combined with your ventilation should raise pH.

hope this helps :)

I'd add a couple of powerheads for circulation/surface agitation if you don't already. This will help oxygenate the water to help raise the pH a little. Opening the windows and letting some fresh air it will help greatly. I'd buffer the alk too. Get some baking soda (arm & Hammer works) or Seachem Reef Builder if you can. Get the alkalinity up to roughly 8-11dkh. This will help with pH fluctuations. Right now, without rock or sand, you basically have a quarantine tank. Would be nice to get something for the bacteria to live in. :)

might be wrong, but isnt it the higher the alk, the lower the pH? i cant remember which way it is.

nope the higher the alk the higher the pH.

it could be the salt mix you are using. it could be that the tank is new. it could be the test kit youre using. :)

heres a couple of articles for you to read while your tank cycles.
