if i were to go barebottom. could i use lexan or plexi to cover the bottom instead of starboard? i have two 24 x 48 sheets i just got for free.

also, how close do you cut it to the seams of a tank??? my last tank i had eggcrate down under the sand, about an inch around gap.

The lexan shouls work fine as long as it stays flat. Depending on how thick it is it might warp. The only reason you put something on the bottom is for a buffer in case a rock falls or something it wont break the glass. If the stuff you have is only 1/4 thick you might want to double it if you have enough.
As far as how tight a fit you want. I can tell you on mine i did not seal the edges where it meets the sides and stuff still accumulates and gets stuck in there. If i were to do it over or on another tank i would silicon the edges.
Even though my way and suggestions above might not be right they have worked for me. Hope that helps

Lexan or Plexi will warp
That's why everyone uses starboard
