View Full Version : What is this growing on the side of my coral?

Does anyone know what this thing is growing on the side of my coral? it has grown pretty big over a few months. Its a Copper/reddish in color.

looks possibly like more coral tissue just with no polyps extended... what kind of coral is it??

Good Question tkenm377 i really am not sure what kind of coral it is hehe... I beleive its a type of encrusting xenia.

:confused:

Any ID on the Coral would help too :D

Your coral is growing.

I had a star polyp that did the same thing - (never have that stuff again. I spent so much time cutting it back and scraping it off the back wall).

It will most likely reach for another rock and start growing - it means your tank is doing well!

I agree with Jeff, looks like the matt for the star polyps, is it soft tissue?

the copper/reddish stuff is a soft type of tissue from what i've fealt.

heres a picture of the hole coral...its in the center of the picture ..the picture was taken a few months ago before the growth on the side was really huge

Some type of star polyps I would bet (Clavularia viridis) and is pretty aggressive stuff

It is encrusting gorgonian...(Erythropodium caribaeorum)

Grows a lot like star polyps (pachyclavularia sp.)
