Has any one taken the black rim off the 5.5 AGA tanks.
I like the whole rimless look, I was wondering if I buy a 5.5 tank and take the top trim off. The size of the tank is pretty small so the pressure on the tank will will not be that much..
Experts please help
Thanks

the only problem with taking the rim off of an aga tank is that it is siliconed on to prevent leaks.

Rimless is pointless when you have a base and hood... have you ever seen my 5.5 aga? Either way I wouldn't do it... the silicone they use isn't that great and I think the tank will start coming apart especially if it ever has to be moved.

I have a 10g rimless glass tank (my ghetto nano) that I got off eBay. It came with PC light, power filter and air pump that run off 12VDC through a transformer... touted as being child safe.
It's been up and running over a year without any problems. On the back is hanging an AC70 fuge and resting on top is a 96w quad Coralife fixture. I'm anal enough to check the seams for separation almost every day, and so far, there are no leaks anywhere.
Now this is a cheap Chinese-made AGA knockoff that I have, I'm sure a real AGA is even better built. If you can cleanly remove the plastic rim without damaging the side joints, I can't see where you'd have any problems.

Or you could just hide the trim,
