So my BF said if he could, he would get...

Tang
Trigger (not Niger)
porcupine pufferfish
Lionfish
Wrasse

We have a 80 gallon tank.
I think my stock list should be...

porcupine puffer #1
Wrasse (maybe fairy..suggestions?)
Tang
(maybe a dwarf angel or butterfly)

What do you think about our suggestions? I am going to go FOWLR for now.

We can't decide on what to get! I know the puffer will outgrow the tank one day...I really do not like triggers. The last one we had, niger, nipped at my fish and stressed out the tank! (tank ALL died of ich!)

Triggers can be nasty. I wouldn't add one. A yellow tang would likely be fine in that tank. What kind of lionfish are you considering?

I just heard that puffers and blue powder tangs are ich magnets..so I dont want them on my list anymore.
I also hate triggers. After BF added one to my last batch of fish, everyone got stressed and got ich.

What about...
wrasse (that doesnt eat inverts)
tang
another tang
butterfly or angel

Could I throw in a lionfish if I took out a fish from my list?
I like the dwarf zebra lionfish.

I'm not a lion expert so I won't comment there. Wrasses are fine, but 3 large swimming fish may be pushing it, unless you were thinking about a dwarf angel.

I think a collection of fairy wrasses would be interesting, and they're reef-safe. This thread covers tangs:

I don't know how large that lionfish gets, but its tankmates should be as large as it is, or larger.

Some butterfles would be fine, too. This book is very useful, in my opinon:

The author has a number of books, and I have liked all of them, so far.

Check this out. This can help you out on most of your compatability questions. Just pull the cursor down and line it up with what you want to get and it will let you know what is compatable, non-compatable or should use caution. I saved it on my favorites:

All tangs are ich magnites also porcupine puffers need at least a 180.

I too was going to say that the porcupine would outgrow that tank. 180 is a bit generous... but 80 is going to be way too small for one. If you don't mind replacing it every so often, you could keep juvies in an 80, but you should have a good home for the adults planned.
