im getting ready to start dosing my tank(oceans blend 2 part).im a little confused on the alk.what kind of test kit do i get for testing the alk?is it the kh test,ph test?the suppliment i have says i should be at 400-450ppm of calcium and 3-4meg/L alk.i have a calcium test kit CA2+,and a ph kit(range is 7.4-8.8)i asumme this is ppm.so does this ph kit tell me alk or do i need something else?any help would be appreciated,thanks.

The KH test kit is what you want. A pH test kit or electronic meter would be useful as well. This article might help:

FWIW, pH does not have any units. Alkalinity is a different thing, and independently very important.
