my salinty is about 1.020 i have heard perfect is 1.022-23 but seriously what are the consequences to having it a little higher or a little lower.

depends on what your running. If you have SPS corals, they require that you keep the salinity up. But on fish only tanks, there is really no issue on running 1.020
