Bulkheads

I started some of the plumbing today. I have a total of 18 bulkhead fittings, some 1", 1.5"and 2". I have a question, just how snug do the bulkheads need to be? Is hand tight enough, or should I purchase a strap wrench? I sure don't want any leaks, but I dont want to crack the glass ither!

this is what I do, I tighten by hand as much as I can, then use belt (strap) wrench to give another 0.25 - 0.5 of a turn.

You will likely not crack the glass before you split the bulkhead nut. As TekCat mentioned hand tight + 1/2 turn is usually all you need. If the gaskets have goorves, place those towards the glass.

i would suspect that any major deformation of the gasket means you tightened them down too much, just watch them as you tighten.
