I am thinking of getting a TEK Light with 6 T5 lamps. But I would like to perhaps run it with only 4 of the 6 lamps if needed and leave two sockets empty. Is this OK? Does anyone know if this will cause a problem even in the long term with the ballast or something?

Yes you can.
It is o.k.
Fixture has 2 switches, leave the other one alone.

I think I remember with the TEK I have at work if you pull one bulb another will go out since they run 2 bulbs to a ballast. You need to make sure you are pulling bulbs that are paired to one ballast.

If not you could overdrive a couple of bulbs and possibly have some problems.

The best thing would be to open up the fixture and remove power to one of those ballasts. I pulled mine apart and rewired the bulbs to mix better during dawn dusk modes.
