View Full Version : Peninsula tank overflow options?

So I've been wanting to start a 120G peninula tank. I can't get a "normal" reef-ready tank as they have the overflow on the back of the tank, which would be in the way. I'm looking for options on how to put an overflow on the end/side of the tank. I'm thinking I can just get a regular tank and drill it but I'm not sure how to set up the overflows. I would like to stay away from U-tube overflows, I was hoping to setup some type of durso if possible. Any pics or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I know this is sort of a shot in the dark, but someone has to have some pics :)

Its a pain, but can be done. Mine is a peninsula tank. I have a u tube overflow and have been happy with it.
If you want some pics I suppose i could go downstairs and take a few. You will have to be creative with your plumbing and closed loop.

btw are you stuck on a 120. I have a 150 and aquascaping was difficult. It would honestly be better in a 180 trim as they are wider.

I have my refugium out of the tank right now because I replaced the dart. The canopy is not complete so you can see how it is piped.

You would just drill the end panel and install an overflow the same way as putting one in the back. You could do a "calfo overflow" (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=473152)

Ah, that Calfo thing was what I was thinking about. I'll read through the thread and see what I come up with. And I would love to go with a 180G but the length is too long, I'm going with a 120 which is 48x24x24.

I almost did a peninsula myself. I was going to do a 150G 5'x2'x2', but changed my mind. The peninsula setups are really nice.
