I'm for ever looking for cheaper ways to sustain our hobby, i'm too broke to buy a RO/Di filter. Since I live in florida and it rains often, Isn't rain water natural distilled water providing it does not come in contact with polluted surfaces like the roof, and we have clean air? Best of all, it's FREE! Has anyone ever thought of using rain water before? Let me know what you guys think.

lildraken: I do not believe you will want to use rain water. I believe rain will collect dust/dirt/exhaust fumes/etc that's in the air on its way down from the clouds. It is definitely not the same as distilled water.

If you're near the ocean, I think a better option would be NSW.

good luck!

Yeah, don't use rainwater. It will have a phosphate reading because of dust in the air. There is a difference.

The other concern with rainwater is collecting it from clean surfaces that do not leach undesirable compounds. A standard home roof is probably inadequate.

That said, some people do use it.
