I have had my tank for about 8 months. I had the diatom algae outbreak at the beginning when cycling. I was running a powercompact. Now I have up graded to a MH and Im getting the diatom all over the place. On the glass rocks sand. Whats the best way to get rid of it. My waters are fine. I use distilled water. I was using RO I switched to distilled. I was going to get a few fighting conchs. No one in may are carrys them. I might have to order them online. Is there another solution

What size tank do you have? A few cerith snails might do the job, if the bloom doesn't disappear on its own.

55G with corner overflow

I think that tank is rather small for fighting conchs, but some snails should be able to keep diatoms (if that's what you're seeing) under control. A few cerith, a few Trochus might do the job.

A pic would be good . What type of cleanup crew do you have ?Did you say you have only 1 power head for flow ?

I have 1 powerhead. Its a maxijet 1200. I also have a return pump that does 600 GPH. I tried to put another powerhead in the tank. It does 250GPH. It was to strong. I read that your suposed to have 1 conch for every 30 gallons

That amount of circulation seems reasonable to me without the extra powerhead. I don't off-hand of a conch that'd be good for your size tank, but one might exist. Fighting and queen conchs get too large.

it just makes everything look like it's rusting. Just turns things brown.
