Leathers and "Chemical Warfare"

I have had some trouble in trying to keep "non-montipora" stonies like acros and such. All of my Montipora variations and LPS are doing great, but the SPS i have tried to keep don't do well and I was told that because I have 3 leather corals, that they emit "chemical warfare that will hurt acros." I'd like to know a lil bit more about this if someone can explain a bit more to me about the Chemical processes or give me a good place to look for reference on my subject.
