I am starting a 135gal system and trying to decide between ozone and UV.

I have read that ozone should be introduced via an ozone reactor and not a protein skimmer for optimal perfomance, but that means spending money on a reactor. In that case it would be cheaper to just go with a good UV system like emperor aquatics.

What do you guys think?

UV is safer but doesnt kill bacteria and unwanted organisms as succesfully as ozone. if you put it onto a protien skimmer it increases its preformance. personaly i would go with ozone, the red sea ozone seems really good for the price.

I don't run either. UV is said by some to clear up tank water a bit. Ozone can have a number of effects. Here's the first article in a series on the topic:

If you're still interested in running ozone after reading the first article, the other two are very useful as well.
