What is this on my glass? It looks like little white specs. At first I thought it might be pods of some sort. But they arent moving... Could it be Ich? My fish have it pretty bad.

No idea. The picture isn't close enough to tell. FWIW, you won't be able to see the Marine Ich on anything like that. What you are seeing on your fish are cysts that are produced by the parasite. From there, the cysts hatch out. Most likely they are Spirorbid worms. Or even "pods" (Copepods, Isopods, etc.). They could also be Scypha Sponges, but those are a lot larger.

Thank you for the reply... should I be worried? Should I just keep cleaning them off the glass?

Cleaning is not going to bother anything. Get those fish in QT and hypo.

hypo?

Not sure but I think Brenden means hyposaline. Which is dropping the salinity to maybe .016 or .010 so the fish are still able to live but the parasites will eventually die off.

thank you... i only do that in the qt ...?

Why hyposalinity.
The critters you all menion are good for the tank.
You might have an explosion of some sort of critter from time to time but it wont last long as critters will only reproduce to the amount of food for them in the water.

When you touch the stuff on your glass is it hard and rough? Is it just coraline that hasn't turned purple yet? I don't see any kind of uniformity in the shape, so I'm going with some sort of algae.. if not coraline algae. As far as ICH goes.. that's not what it is :) If you r fish have it and they ALL have it I don't really see a need to take them out for treatment. This is one of the FEW cases I could see the use of a UV steralizer. YOu may try one untill youve zapped all the ICH. It will take a while though, becuase you'll only kill it as it swims back down through the water column.

In a quarintine tank of course . Bboley mentioned something about his fish having Ich. I was helping him to understand one method of getting rid of Ich. And I assumed that he knew when fish have Ich you should quarentine them. And furthermore drop the salinity of the quarintine tank. Sorry for any confusion this might have caused.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled postings...

You guys can honestly get an ID from that picture?
C'mon, quit jumping to conclusions and telling someone to do this and that when you have no clue of what it really is. Having someone QT and decrease salinity in a hypo tank is irresponsible IMO.

Get a better picture so that we can see a little bit better, and give you an accurate diagnosis. As of right now, it could be anything from sand/bubbles/ich/or pods.

Do you know of a type of coralline algae that grows on your FISH?
I don't. If it's gotten to the fish and there's not a ton of air bubbles flowing through the tank then more than likely it's Ich. As far as what's on the glass I have not idea. Scrape it with a magnet and see if it comes off. If not then it's likely a pod or macro-algae trying to form. If it does then it's probably it dino-flages. And as anyone can READ from BBoley's first post, his FISH have these WHITE SPOTS. FISH+WHITE SPOTS=ICH.

Woah! Everybody is jumping the tracks. With that picture, we can only speculate what is on his glass. Hince everyone asking if they are hard or soft. As far as why people are suggestion to treat with Hyposalinity isn't because of what is on the glass.

Could it be Ich? My fish have it pretty bad.

IMO, you need lots more photo and/or information before you try to diagnose or treat this situation. IMO ;)

lol... this is absolutly hilarious... i thank you all for your responses... here is the current standpoint... Its not ich. Lets all get off of the ICH subject. I was fully aware of the ICH cycle but was not sure wether or not it could reproduce on the glass. I learned alot about ICH as the white dots are a cist rather than the parasite itself. I know what ICH is and simply asked a question about hypsosalinity.

Secondly, and more importantly... the stuff on the wall does not appear to be animate. or i could be but my eyes cant catch the small moving objects. Its very soft as the mag float blows right over it. And it flys off... Im not a moron... and neither are you. ITS NOT CORALINE. Next up... The possibility of pods. If this were the case... they would be everywhere... but I dont see them... My millions of peps had babies but they come straight from the belly of the shrimp... anymore stabs?

What is this a test? Or a game? I thought you wanted help?
