I have a 9" Argus Grouper in a 180 with a ton of very Large Hermit Crabs. My Grouper usually opts to stay out in the open. Sometimes he hovers near the top of the tank where the water comes in from the wet/dry. He will stay there quite a long time.
He has one massive cave that I built for him that he seems to like.
But he does not use it as much as he stays in the open. He could be using it at night though.
I am wondering if the large Hermit Crabs (Dardanus Megistos) are preventing him form enjoying his cave. The big ones like to go in there, and camp out. It seems to me that they are annoying to him.
He will rush into his cave which let's me know that he does find security there.
Does anybody else have an Argus Grouper that prefers to stay out in the open? Any of the Peacock bass owners may answer as the Hinds are all very similar.
