Is it normal for a green leather to have a brownish base? Also I am trying to save it from sudden death and it went from limp for a few days to standing up, but very small. The base that it was connected to started falling apart, very wierd. Do they decompose from the base up?

If you look at the picture, the stringy part at the base is very loose. I ended up ripping it off. Should I frag it out or let it be. Don't know if that brown is normal.
