Well Cindy and I are getting close to buying a new home and its on a slab. MY main motivation for the new place is the desire for the LARGE REEF :) Anyways I'm curious how much weight can a typical slab handle before I have to worry about cracking.

I'm thinking about having a 84" x 32" x 27" or so tank built. Not exactly sure how many gallons that equates to but I'm thinking around 400 or so. I figure total weight of that beast would be around 3500lbs or so disbursed over that spread. What do you all think? Of course I know it depends on the slab thickness etc but conservatively what do you think?

Thanks!
Chris

Most concrete, even unreinforced, will handle at least 2,000 Lbs per Square inch, usually more like 3,000+. When you figure your 3,400 lb would be spread out onto at least 4 to 6 legs, you shouldn't have a problem.

No problem at all. You may have an issue if you have a wood floor or something on top of the slab but that's the only thing that I would be concerned with. I have a tile floor right on top of the slab and it supports the tank weight with no problems.
