Nice pics joe. Everyone asks about the "elos overflow" and this will probably help understand it a bit better. Keep up the good work. Jesse

how is the flow in the tank with the horses? i had considered an ELOS tank for my seahorses but prefer a higher tank so i stopped looking at them. i was not told of custom tanks when i first inquired but i see now that they are available and may get a quote for the height i need.

The flow is good, it is turned down a bit actually. The horses & clams seem to love it in here.

Hey
whats the k value of the DE bulb you are running

elosusa
10/18/2006, 03:17 PM
As Joe stated, the return is an eheim 1260 and it comes with a ball valve, so you can turn it down, if needed. By the way Joe, your PO4 test kit color charts got sent today.

Any info on it, do you have it in 250watt? I might want to give it a try.

elosusa
10/18/2006, 03:32 PM
yep they are 138 for the 250w. There is a thread with some information on it that Nick gave. Let me see if I can find it. It is UV treated for safety which is a nice feature. It also comes with it's own glove for installation which is an absolute must:)

A quote from Nick in another thread:

Hi Brett,
thanks for your question. It gives me the chance to clarify our position on bulb:
we have been the first company to introduce an UV filtered bulb. To signalize this to the customer we mark our bulb with the "UV-P" definition. The "UV-P" mark have been introduced by us, when we have first introduced our bulbs to the market about 8 years ago. Now, as far as I know, also some German producers have started to introduce the filter on the glass of their bulbs and one of them use the same mark as we do "UV-P" on their bulbs. No problem on this but, to be honest, this was our "trademark" and I'm happy to point out this on this discussion!

Shield glasses normally installed on pendant lights grant different type of protection toward UV. With our bulbs we give an extra protection which, of course will slightly influence (reduce) the PPFD as well as the CCT when compared to unshielded bulbs but we think that, the "bill to pay" is much lower than the effect that an unshielded bulb can generate (I've delicate eyes and I've personally been burned by unshielded bulbs).

On all our products we take great care of corals, fish, the aquarium, but mainly on users . On our test kit and additive we use ingredients and formulations which are not poison, we apply the security tag for blind people, we use closure safe to children, where possible, our electrical devices runs at low voltage, we take care to environment using safe material , our products are made to work well and to be easy to use etc. etc.

On bulbs? Here we definitely believe that it is much better to have a slightly reduced PAR, than burning your corals and also your eyes. This is why, we have decided to supply only shielded bulbs.
Beside this, from experiment, we have also found that in same case corals develop better coloration under our bulbs.... but I let you, to discover this (as many other hobbyist have found here in Europe) as a "side" effect on using a much safer bulb.

I don't like to give number of PPFD and CCT as they definitely depend on testing condition, instruments, working temperature, ballast. Just as a rough view let me say that, using our Planet, with electronic ballast our 250 watt bulb shows a CCT of about 8,800-9,000 with a PPFD of about 80-85 which slightly increase (close to 100-110) using the magnetic ballast version.

I hope to have given a fair view on our bulb. My suggestion is to try it. I'm sure you'll find it a good bulb.

And... protect your skin and eyes when you use unshielded bulbs in unshielded fixtures.

So do your Planet IIs have a glass shield over the DE?

elosusa
10/18/2006, 04:56 PM
yep, the de with uv is extra protection.

In the pictures, the light looks very blue...... is this because of the MH bulbs or because of the T5's ? Looking at the pictures, I thought the bulb could be a 14 or 20K.

Jesse,

Dou you have 400 watt SE bulbs ?

elosusa
10/18/2006, 06:20 PM
yeah, I believe that is a combo of the camera settings and the 4 actinic t5's, but I could be wrong. Take a look at the MACNA pictures and this may help a bit. If you want I can take a picture of a 2x150w in the office and leave the t5's off? I do have 400w SE.

Fatboy

Jesse,

Can you PM me please with information about the available SE 400 bulbs ?

elosusa
10/18/2006, 06:28 PM
yep. I have not brought any in but I will ask about the availablity. We have 10k and 20k so let me know what you are interested in and I will try to get some actual numbers on them and an opinion from Nick how the bulbs look, perform, etc...

joetbs
10/18/2006, 06:32 PM
Jesse's right, the bulb is 10k, but the t5s reflected over. I was just messing with the camera and the shot came out nice.

We actually run the light without the glass shield to show this feature of the bulb. It is a very nice color with the t5s, a nice balance of crisp white & blue.

Sorry for my poor effort at sarcasm, I bought a 2x150W + 4x39W fixture from Jesse.

Elos is kind of an addiction. The detail is unsurpassed. Plus my wife thinks it looks good so I get to keep my tank. :) Thanks Joe for the detailed pictures.

OK now you suck too.

Yeah I really want the 160XL but I have to wait til I move. I probably should just get the BioII instead.

Have you ever heard anyone get as excited about stuff as Jesse does? His enthusiasm did get me to try their chelated (sp?) calcium so I guess it works.

Alright I'm out for the night. I have a light to sell now. Anyone want a soup'd up Sunlight NG?

Fatboy
10/18/2006, 08:37 PM
Fliger,

Come on...... you know you want a Suncolor Evo instead :D

elosusa
10/18/2006, 08:41 PM
Before you go Fliger, did you want 2 or 3 of the suncolors, I forget? Oh and if you catch me after my morning redbull you might as well just put down the phone. After I got home I sipped a little combi calcium after we got done talking. I'll let you know how it works............
