This past summer I lost a lot of my corals and fish. This is attributed to the temp, my tank got up to. I saw it up to 86-87 degrees. Before I start to rebuild I must figure out a solution to this.

I need some recomendations of what I should get. Money is ofcourse a concern. My biggest problem is that I have VERY limited space to plumb something into my system.

I would like something submersible, if there is such a thing. If not I am looking for something fairly small and with flex plumbing vs. rigid. Thanks in advance for your help.

Most chillers require very good ventilation, so they won't be able to go in your stand anyway. Most look quite nice, and aren't bad sitting next to the tank (kinda like the subwoofer from your surround sound system). I have a JBJ and am happy with it. It has flex tubing connections to a split from the sump return pump.

Is this for the 75g? Do you already have fans blowing across the water surface and/or sump? Are any external pumps well ventilated (ie not being fed warm air from another pump/light)?

BTW, what corals died? My old mixed reef hit 92F on more than one occasion. Didn't even lose an SPS.

If max temp is under 90, most of the time a good fan is the answer. I placed a 6 inch personal fan on the wall blowing against my 250 HQI & the temperature went down by 4-5 degrees. Watch your evaporation carefully though.

Yes it is for the 75 gal. I did hav one fan it was about 8 in in diameter and sits about 3-4 inches off the surface of the water. I do have anexternal pump for my sump.

I lost an anemone (still have one), brain, frogspawn, a couple SPS. I also lost 2 Tangs, blenny and a coral beuty.

I'd be quite surprised if 86-87F killed those animals. I keep my tank 82-83 normally. But anyway, back to your question...

What kind of external pumps? Make sure they are getting proper, cool air ventilating them (ie make sure they are not sitting in an enclosed stand where hot air is trapped). This can increase your tank temp. Once you have the tank as cool as possible using fans, then size your chiller after that. You probably will need a 1/5HP.

The only pump I currently have is a Gen X-40 pump. Since it is not submersible, I would not imagine it would provide much heat.

I will take a look at the JBJ's.

Please don't tak this the wrong way, but this hobby is expensive. the only ones that suffer are the livestock. Chillers can be found for cheap, you just have to keep your eye out. I doubt this was the only thing that killed your animals as well. Also try running a reverse daylight schedule while it is hot. It may not be the permanent situation, but will help for now

Is there any way to put a chiller in another room?
I have my chiller outside my house on the patio. 11' away.

This time of year there are chillers showing up in the used equipment forum here.
