Since everyone here has been so nice and helpful I thought I would share my tank with you.

Here is a straight forward shot of the tank. I recently redid it to add depth to the tank, after reading about the tank of the month.
Be warned the sand is a little green, because I have to get some sifters, but the fish store has been out for 3 weeks.

Here is a picture of a few corals I have.

If anyone wants any other pics of anything in the tank just let me know.

I really like how you've set up your rocks!

Since you like the rock work I will post a bit more of it.

I tried to make as many holes, and crevices as I could I also had fun making a bridge

I also got some dead corals from the fish store, and integrated them into the fish tank.

They add a real dynamic look to the tank and they cost 0 dollars.

That looks really good, I agree on the dead corals :D I am not a big fan of using bleached/dead corals in aquascaping myself. I have seen markets where this is a big seller (dead coral skeleton)
I know that if a store has a market for a product, they will actively seek it out. This in turn could lead to undesired consequences to live coral... Using corals you have killed yourself is a bit different, at least you were trying to keep them alive :)

One exception I can think of is coral regeneration, gluing live coral to dead coral to re-colonize the piece. (works great with Bali Slimer)

:( Did not even think about that aspect of it. very good point.

tprize- Tank is looking good
What kind of glue are you guys using to piece your dead corals together with the live? I too have a lot of old base rock & dead coral skeletons & think it would be easier to glue pieces together rather then drilling holes in them to insert some sort of acrylic rod.

Nice and simple. What size tank is it? It looks like it's got pretty good depth. Or is that just the result of your good aquascaping;) Good job.

I don't think coral skeleton's pose a problem, all live rock is dead coral.

I don't think coral skeleton's pose a problem, all live rock is dead coral.

well without going into some long dialog:

ALL coral reefs are also built upon "Dead Coral"
If a larger market emerges (and there is a market for dead coral). Local collectors will start harvesting these bleached and dead zones of coral. This completely removes any possible chance that another coral can utilize the dead skeleton (fish also use them)

Also some people will buy a dead bleached coral specimen while on vacation to some island hot spot. They would never consider a live specimen for obvious reasons. So the local shop keeper goes out and harvest live coral, bleaches it and then makes a buck.. This is not supposition, it is what really happens

This is why live rock harvest is typically not allowed in the wild either, to much collateral damage and loss of habitat.
