View Full Version : Too Much Flow Causing Microbubbles

I am having a real hard time getting rid of microbubbles. I have a mag 7 for a return pump in my 20G long sump. Accounting for overhead it pumps 435 GPH into my 72G main tank. I was wondering if this is to much and is causing the bubbles or can I rule it out and start looking for other possibilites?

Oh yeah, is the flow through the sump the output of the return pump? In my case, 435 GPH.

Thanks,

Mike

435 doesn't sound like much... and yes the flow through the sump would be the same as the output as the pump, minus head pressure.
Your skimmer could be a cause of the microbubble issue. I place a filter sock on the output of my skimmer.
Also, where your water drains into the sump, you can build a box with teeth just like an overflow out of acrylic and let your drains empty out in there. Baffels can also help. Look through the DIY section at sumps and check out their techniques to prevent microbubbles.
