Does anyone have a 'recipe' for Lugols Iodine dip?
I can't find it anywhere locally and would like to try something to help my tank out tonight.
I found a zoa eating Nudi in there today and have 2 frags that have closed up on me already.

If you can not find it at a local fish store you could ask a pharmacy. If you can not find it anywhere local then try the internet.
Keep in mind, you paid a lot for your frags, so why not spend $15 at most on a bottle of Iodine that will last you 8+ frags. Loosing your frags cost a lot more than that.

So lugols is just a name brand of regular iodine? Is this why a pharmacy would have it?

At 8PM on a Friday night it isn't easy to acquire Lugols in a hurry!I would have gladly paid twice the price but couldn't get any!
Not a standard pharmacy item here, nor suprisingly did any of the LFS stock it.
After doing a bunch of research I found that true Lugols is a mixture of iodine - 1 gm, distilled water 100 ML and potassium iodide 1 gm. The ingredient that is the problem is the potassium iodide. I spoke with my local pharmacy and was informed that potassium iodide is used in chemotherapy drugs and it is a prescription only item.
So for tonight it has been FW dips to at least try and minimize more damage overnight and I have located a reefer friend who will loan me a bottle tomorrow.
I appreciate your thoughtful responses!
Angela - love your line about Kroegers...:)

You can just use regular tincture of iodine instead. You just have to use twice as much. I use it for a general purpose coral dip for my zoas and sps.
