rock that has been in a rubbermaid container cooking for the past 3 months (little slow on getting my big tank set up)
looks like apthasia on a rock, tried to rip it off, but it retracted into a hole
can it do that??, just wanna make sure before hypodermic needle time

yes they can,and rather quickly at that.

yep I had that problem in my 120, I kept trying to peel it out and it kept retracting into a small hole. I used joe's juice to kill mine, which is basically calcium, I'm sure you know all this already but they are a type of anenome and will spread throughout your tank if you don't treat them soon. also certain butterflies such as a copperband and pepperment shrimp will eat them. good luck

Most of the butterflies that eat aiptasia will also decimate any coral you introduce to the tank as well. Be really sure you want a butterfly (I do) in your tank.

I actually have 2 adult aiptasia in my tank, had a couple small ones and got 2 peppermint shrimp. They took care of the small ones, as long as they keep em in check the bigger ones don`t bother me, since nothing much else in tank yet.
