My LFS never gets any six line wrasses, and also says they are a very hard to keep fish. I see alot of people on here who have them. Anyone have trouble with these guys?

Thanks for the replies. I hope I am able to get one soon. I really like the way they look, and im hoping it will help out with a minor outbreak of flatworms.

I have a 6-line wrasse in my 30 gallon reef. In smaller tanks, this fish can be somewhat aggressive. For some reason, the individual that I have, will go after and kill any goby . it actively hunts them down and will not stop attacking until the goby is killed. 6 lines might work better in larger tanks. Other than that, mine will feed on red flatworms and seems to ignore other rowdy fish such as clownfishes.....Jim Z

i think they just don't ship well and that's why many stores don't carry them

I will be putting mine in a 65g I already have 2 percula clowns, and 1 coral beauty. I am thinking of adding a midas blenny at the same time. Do you think I will have any problems with that?

I have had one for about a year and he generally minds his own business swimming around and picking stuff off of the rocks. He did chase my eightline flasher wrasse for about a week when I first introduced him but eventually settled down.

No problems with my SLW. Great fish, very hardy and not aggressive at all. He's in my reef tank with 2 blackfoot clowns, coral beauty, lawnmower blenny, regal tang, flame angel, fuzzy dwarf, 3 chromis, 2 cleaner shrimp, 2 brittlestars and coral lobster. He does'nt quarrel with any of my inhabitants so I think you should be OK getting one, from my experience at least.

They're not hard to keep and IMO I would be hesistant about exactly which advice I take from that LFS.

Six lines can be aggressive to newcomers in smaller tanks. What Jim Z. stated I can really see happening and triggerfish1976 has a 600 gallon tank...plenty of room and hiding spaces...

I had mine for three years. He was a model citizen, until about a month ago he jumped out of the tank during the night.

They can be aggressive, but it depends on the fish. Some are better than others.

Try a 4-line wrasse (P. tetrataenia) if you can find one - it looks very similar to the 6-line and is more peaceful in small tanks. Mine is in a 30 gallon and has never bothered other fish.

I've also heard the cryptic sixline is very placid.

one of my LFS also says the SLW is an aggressive one especially when they mature and he won't even stock them. So i went to another LFS and he had 3. After reading here about them i decided to go ahead and get one. I love it. It weaves in and out of the rocks looking for food and doesn't bother my 2 clowns or lawnmower blenny. In fact it's LOL funny when the come upon each other real close it's like there talking amongest themselves. No bad posturering just looking at each other real close.
